If you searched for the O-Shot® or a PRP shot for women, this page explains what we offer instead. Those names describe platelet-rich plasma from your own blood injected into the clitoris and the front wall of the vagina. We no longer use PRP. Our injection uses umbilical cord–derived tissue matrix products, a connective tissue matrix product and an extracellular matrix product, placed into the same tissue to supplement and support it. No product of this kind is FDA approved for any use, and we do not use it to treat sexual dysfunction, incontinence or any other condition.
Start with the cause
Changes in arousal, sensation, comfort or bladder control usually have a reason: shifting estrogen and testosterone around perimenopause and menopause, thyroid problems, medications (including many antidepressants), pelvic-floor changes after childbirth, or pain that has its own cause. Because we are a hormone clinic, your consultation looks at those first, with labs where indicated. If low estrogen is the reason for dryness and discomfort, treating it is the honest first step, and an injection would be the wrong thing to sell you. If a symptom needs a gynecologist or a pelvic-floor physical therapist, we will say so and help you get there.
Who this is for
Women who want to discuss a non-drug option for sensation and comfort after an evaluation, and women who are already treating an underlying cause and want to add to that plan. It is not for women who are pregnant, have an active infection or a bleeding disorder; your provider will say so at the consultation.
What we inject
The connective tissue matrix product is umbilical cord tissue kept close to its natural structure: hyaluronic acid, collagen, elastin and other connective tissue components. It is combined with an extracellular matrix product from the same kind of source. Both are donated by screened mothers in the United States after full-term, scheduled cesarean births, processed by tissue banks that are registered with the FDA and accredited by the American Association of Tissue Banks, minimally manipulated, free of DMSO and added chemicals, and tested for sterility lot by lot. The visit, step by step
- Consultation. Private and unhurried, with the evaluation above. The consultation is free.
- Numbing. A strong topical anesthetic is applied and given time to work.
- The injection. A small number of injections near the clitoris and just inside the vagina. The procedure takes a few minutes; most women describe pressure rather than pain.
- Afterwards. You return to your day. We give written instructions on when sexual activity can resume.
- Follow-up. One injection is the usual starting point; whether to repeat it is decided with your provider after a few months.
What to expect, honestly
We will not promise you results on a web page. The evidence for tissue products injected into genital tissue is early, and responses vary widely. What we can tell you is what the product is, how it is sourced and tested, and what our patients have reported; that conversation belongs at your consultation. Where women do notice a change in sensation or comfort, it is usually over several weeks, not days. Individual results vary and cannot be guaranteed.
Risks
Expect some tenderness, swelling or spotting for a few days. Uncommon risks include infection, a small lump at an injection site, and temporary changes in sensation. Because the products are donated human tissue, there is a small risk of an immune or allergic reaction and a screening-reduced but not zero risk of disease transmission. Long-term data on these products are limited. We review blood thinners and other medications first.
Related options
Some women combine this with ThermiVa radiofrequency treatment or with hormone therapy when labs support it. Vaginal estrogen, where appropriate, is inexpensive, well studied and often the most effective option for dryness and discomfort; we will say so when it is.
