You have probably heard the terms “cosmetic injectables” and “dermal fillers.” Many times, these terms are used interchangeably, but they don’t mean the same exact thing. While they are both designed to enhance your natural beauty, there are differences between the two. A dermal filler is a type of cosmetic injectable that typically uses a substance to add volume to a particular area of your face. And, while dermal fillers are considered cosmetic injectables, every cosmetic injectable is not a dermal filler, as is the case with Botox®.
Read on to learn more about cosmetic injectables, dermal fillers, and how they may help you enjoy a more youthful appearance. If you’re ready to speak to a professional about any of the cosmetic injectables below contact the Rock Creek Wellness Center in Leawood. A cosmetic injectable is a substance that is injected into the face most often for the purpose of reducing the appearance of facial wrinkles and lines. The most commonly known cosmetic injectable is Botox®. In addition to cosmetic injectables that reduce the look of lines and wrinkles, some like Dysport®, help to reduce the appearance of a double chin. Dermal fillers are also considered a type of cosmetic injectable.
Cosmetic injectables are a minimally invasive procedure that can help people regain their youthful appearance. For those who are interested in reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles or even adding volume to their lips or cheeks and do not want to undergo cosmetic surgery, cosmetic injectables may be a great solution. And, while the effect of cosmetic injectables is temporary, some can last for a year, two, or more depending upon the brand.
A dermal filler, also known as a facial filler, is a type of cosmetic injectable that is meant to add volume to an area of the face. They are commonly used to add volume to the patient’s lips and cheeks as well as reduce dark undereye circles. Dermal fillers can utilize hyaluronic acid, collagen, or other substances to add volume.

Botox® is a cosmetic injectable that utilizes Botulinum Toxin. It’s ideal for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, forehead, upper lip, and smile lines. It typically takes just a couple of days to see results and lasts for three to four months.
Dysport® is a cosmetic injectable that utilizes the ingredient abobotulinumtoxinA, which is a neurotoxin. It’s used to reduce the appearance of frown lines, forehead wrinkles, and crow’s feet and the results can last up to five months.
Juvéderm® is a hyaluronic filler meaning that it fills in lines and wrinkles with hyaluronic acid. Juvéderm® comes in a variety of different fillers and can add volume to cheeks, lips, or reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. The results from Juvéderm® can last up to two years. At Rock Creek Wellness, we offer Juvéderm® Voluma™ XV for the treatment of wrinkles and Juvéderm® Volbella™ for lip enhancement.
Renanessa® Versa™ is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler that is used to treat facial wrinkles and laugh lines. This dermal filler provides immediate results that can last up to a year. Renanesa® Versa™ is designed to result in less swelling than other dermal fillers.
Bellafill® is a dermal filler that utilizes polymethyl methacrylate microspheres in a base of collagen gel. The collagen gel immediately reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles while the microspheres build a foundation on which your own collagen can develop which produces results that can last up to five years.
Kybella® is a cosmetic injectable that is designed to treat double chin. This cosmetic injectable is unique because its purpose is not to reduce the appearance of lines or wrinkles. Instead, with Kybella®, deoxycholic acid is delivered through an injection. This substance is a synthetic form of a molecule that helps your body process fat, so when it is injected into the area underneath your chin, it may help to reduce your double chin. The results of Kybella® are permanent.
