Foods that naturally balance hormones and brighten skin

Your body’s hormones control more than just your reproductive system, and are also responsible for your mood, energy, libido, digestion, metabolism, and the appearance of your skin. When your hormones become imbalanced, one of the best ways to start getting your hormone levels back on track is to eat healthier foods that promote healthy and normal hormone production.

For optimal hormone production, the human body requires a healthy balance of protein, carbohydrates, and healthy fatty acids. Without these key nutrients, our bodies will fail to produce the hormones we need to stay healthy, energetic, and happy.

Eat clean protein

Stay away from unhealthy sources of protein such as cheeseburgers, hot dogs, sausage, and bacon, and eat clean protein foods, such as:

  • Beans
  • Seeds
  • Nuts
  • Lentils
  • Quinoa
  • Wild-caught fish
  • Organic turkey, chicken, eggs, beef

Eat foods high in healthy fatty acids

Foods that are high in fatty acids contain compounds and antioxidants that can help boost hormone production and accelerate the healing of unhealthy skin. Examples of foods high in fatty acids are:

  • Avocados
  • Coconut oil
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Olive oil
  • Egg yolks

Eat a higher number of vegetables

Start adding vegetables to every meal. Vegetables are high in antioxidants and contain a number of vitamins and compounds associated with a number of health benefits, including the ability to regulate hormones and brighten skin. Eat a mixture of vegetables that are dark green, brightly-colored, and starchy in consistency, such as:

  • Kale
  • Broccoli
  • Spinach
  • Red, yellow, and orange peppers
  • Carrots
  • Tomatoes
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Beets
  • Artichokes
  • Turnips
